It is where the state formally publishes things that need a public, dated, official footprint — new rules and notifications from departments, appointments and postings, tenders and public notices, and, relevant to most people reading this, individual name-change notifications. When something is "published in the gazette," it has been printed in this official journal and given a date and reference, which is what makes it usable as proof later.
In Gujarat, this journal is produced by the Government of Gujarat through its government printing setup (commonly referred to as the Government Central Press / Directorate of Government Printing and Stationery). For years the gazette existed only on paper. Today it is also published electronically as the e-Gazette, which is simply the digital, downloadable version of the same official journal. The electronic copy carries the same authority as the printed one — it is not a private reproduction; it is the government's own PDF.
This distinction matters because a lot of people search "gujarat gazette" or "e gazette gujarat" expecting to land on the official gazette and either read a notification or download a copy. It is a .gov.in address, which is your first check that you're on the genuine government site and not a look-alike. Bookmark it. If a search result or a message ever sends you to a different domain claiming to be "the Gujarat gazette download," treat it with caution — the official copy only comes from the government portal.

A gazette issue is identified by three handles: the press that printed it, its date / issue number, and its part. Government portals do get redesigned, so if a label has moved since we checked, look for the same function under its new name — the logic doesn't change.

The most common mistake is searching for a spelling that differs — even slightly — from what was actually printed. Gazette text is literal. If your name was published as "Rajeshbhai" and you search "Rajesh," the in-PDF search may skip right past it. When in doubt, search a shorter, unambiguous fragment.

"Gujarat gazette application status check" now has a real answer: the portal has a public tracker for name-change applications, and it takes about a minute to use.
For a long time the honest answer was "the gazette is a publication, not a tracking system — search the issues and see whether you're in one." That has changed. The Directorate of Government Printing & Stationery's portal now carries a Name/Surname Change Search that shows the stage an individual application has reached, whether you filed it yourself or through a service. No login is needed. Here is how to use it:

"No records found" usually means the detail you typed doesn't match the form character for character — a different spelling, a missing middle name, a space in the wrong place. Try the mobile number instead, then the application number, and widen the date range. If nothing matches on any field, ask whoever filed the application for the application number exactly as it appears on the acknowledgement, and try again.

Once you've found the right issue, downloading is straightforward — but a few habits make the copy actually useful when an authority asks for it later.
If the file won't open or seems incomplete, it's usually a browser or connection issue — try a different browser, or download rather than opening in-tab. The portal serves standard PDFs, so any normal PDF reader will display them.
"e gazette gujarat login" is one of the most-searched phrases around the portal. Here is what the login is for — and what it isn't.
You do not need to log in to search, check status or download. Those three are public. The Login link at the top of the portal exists for one purpose: submitting a name/surname or birth-date change application online. The sign-in page asks for a user ID, a password and a captcha, and has a New User Register Here link for first-time applicants, plus the usual forgot-password and forgot-username links.
Next to it sits an Online Payment menu with four entries: Change of Name/Surname, Change of Birthdate, Check Payment Status and Reconcile Payment. The Change of Name/Surname page shows the government fee options the portal accepts — as displayed in August 2026:

The page marks the amount as non-refundable, and the portal's own notice says that page is for payment only — the full online application is made from inside a registered user's login, where the form and the payment go together. Which annexure applies depends on how your change is being published; the Press confirms it at filing, and so do we. Check Payment Status needs only the mobile number used for the payment.
People search "gujarat gazette name change list" (or "rajkot gazette name change list") expecting one alphabetical page of everyone whose name was changed. The portal doesn't publish it that way. Name changes are printed inside dated gazette issues, in the part reserved for personal notices, so the "list" for any given day is the issue PDF itself. Two ways to get at it:

Official gazettes are divided into parts and sections, each carrying a different category of content. Broadly, major government business — new rules, statutory notifications, official orders from departments — sits in one set of parts, while notices concerning individuals, which is where personal name-change notifications are published, sit in their own designated part. You don't need to memorise the numbering; you need the habit of asking "which category is my notification?" before you start searching, because that alone tells you which part to open.
There's also a distinction between an ordinary gazette (the regular, scheduled issue) and an extraordinary gazette (a special issue published outside the normal schedule for something time-sensitive). Individual name changes typically appear in the regular flow. If you're unsure which part or type your notification landed in, the fastest route is to search by date and your exact printed name rather than trying to guess the part first.
