A single week's gazette carries wildly different cargo: statutory rules from departments, appointments and transfers, tender and land notices β and, alongside all of it, private individuals' announcements such as name changes. Printing that mix as one undifferentiated stream would make the journal unusable, so official gazettes are organised into Parts, each carrying one category of content, with supplements and sections layered where a category needs subdividing. The Part system is old, stable, and shared in spirit across Indian government gazettes.

Individual name-change notifications are published in the miscellaneous-notices category β in published Gujarat Government Gazette issues this appears as "PART-II β Miscellaneous Notices and Advertisements". Look at any real issue and the layout is strikingly plain: a numbered list, each entry showing the old name/surname, the new name/surname, the applicant's address, and a small gazette registration number beside the entry. Some issues list dozens of people in a table; others β particularly extraordinary issues β carry a single person's notification on its own page (see ordinary vs extraordinary).
One line printed above those notices deserves attention, because it explains the whole legal machinery: the government notes that the contents are based on the applicant's application and affidavit, without verification of documents. That's not a weakness β it's the design. The affidavit is where your declaration carries legal weight (how it works); the Gazette gives that declaration its public, dated, official record. Which is also exactly why the affidavit must be perfect: the gazette prints what you swore, as you swore it.
Example 1 β Found in fifteen seconds. A Jamnagar client wanted to show her bank the published entry the day we sent her PDF.
