Every official gazette runs on a schedule β the Gujarat Government Gazette's regular issues appear on their appointed cycle, numbered sequentially through the year, each carrying that period's accumulated notices. That's the ordinary gazette: the journal's heartbeat. But government can't always wait for the next scheduled beat β some matters need publishing now. For those, the press issues an Extraordinary gazette: a separately numbered issue published outside the regular cycle, on whatever day it's needed, containing just the matter at hand.
Look at real examples and the pattern is visible at a glance: a regular issue arrives as 'Issue No. 21' with a long numbered table of name changes β fourteen, twenty, more people per page β while extraordinary issues carry high sequential numbers (No. 5441, No. 5519...) and often a single person's notification set alone on the page, marked EXTRAORDINARY in the masthead. Same masthead, same authority, same 'Published by Authority' line β different rhythm.
Here's the honest answer most sites won't give: it isn't a choice you tick on a form. Where your notification lands reflects the press's publication logistics β how notices are batched and issued at the time yours is processed. In current practice many individual name changes are issued promptly as extraordinary gazettes carrying one or a few notifications, while others appear in the regular collected listings. Both outcomes are routine.
What you should ignore entirely is any agent implying an 'extraordinary gazette' is a premium product they can sell you, or conversely that a listing among many names is somehow lesser. The publication type is not a service tier. Her bank accepted the PDF without a murmur β the single-name format, if anything, made the entry easier for the clerk to sight-verify. Total decoding required by her: none.
Example 2 β Line 9 of a weekly list. A Jamnagar client's change printed as entry number nine in a regular issue's multi-person table. When a passport official later wanted the proof, she supplied the full issue PDF and pointed to her numbered line β old name, new name, address, registration number, all present. Same acceptance, same force. Two formats, two happy endings, zero difference in outcome.
Whichever issue type carries you, verify the substance: the masthead (The Gujarat Government Gazette, Published by Authority), the issue number and date, your exact names β old and new, letter-perfect β your address, and the registration number.
