If you have been told your file is “at the press”, this is the press. What the Directorate of Government Printing & Stationery does, where it fits in your timeline, and what it will never be able to tell you.
DGPS is the Directorate of Government Printing & Stationery, Government of Gujarat. It is the body that actually prints and publishes the Gujarat Government Gazette, and it runs the official e-Gazette portal at egazette.gujarat.gov.in.
If your name change is "with the press", DGPS is the press. It is the last stop in the chain — and the one nobody outside government can hurry.
Every state needs somewhere to print its official record: the notifications, appointments, rules, tenders and public announcements that only count once they are formally published. In Gujarat that job belongs to the Directorate of Government Printing & Stationery, headquartered in Gandhinagar, with government presses under it.
Most citizens never hear the name. They meet DGPS only through its output — the PDF of the Gazette with the state masthead at the top — or through the portal where that PDF is published. If you have searched for "DGPS Gujarat" after being told your file is at the press, this is what you were being told.

That second column is the part that frustrates people, so it is worth stating plainly: DGPS prints and publishes; it does not draft or fix your application. What its portal does offer — since we last checked, in August 2026 — is a public status tracker: the Name/Surname Change Search on egazette.gujarat.gov.in shows whether an application is at Inward, Verification, Approve/Return or Published when you enter the application number or the mobile number used on the form. Understanding the chain explains why timelines behave the way they do:
Documents checked, spellings fixed against your existing records, affidavit prepared where applicable. Errors caught here cost days. Errors missed here cost weeks.
It enters the government queue with the supporting documents. This is the last point at which a correction is cheap.
DGPS prints to a schedule, not on demand. Your entry joins a queue of everything else the state is publishing that cycle. Nothing you or we do speeds up a printing calendar.
Your entry appears in an issue with a date, a part and a section. That published page is your proof.
The issue goes up on the e-Gazette site, where anyone can search and download it free — including you, and including the office that asks you for it.
Stage 3 is where almost all of the waiting lives, and it is the one stage entirely outside anyone's control. Any service that promises to "fast-track the press" is describing something it cannot do.
Two different questions, two different answers:
Do not spend a week refreshing a government portal for an entry that has not been printed yet. Check whether the expected window has actually passed first — our status page sets out realistic timings by stage.

Normal plan: your Gujarat Gazette within 60 days. Express (extraordinary Gazette): within 30 days — counted from the date full payment is received and your application number is generated. Nobody can fix the Government Press’s exact publication date, so instead of a promise we cannot keep, we give you a real remedy: if we miss the window you get a full refund of everything you paid us — and we still complete your Gazette at no further service charge.
