If you have been told your file is βat the pressβ, this is the press. What the Directorate of Government Printing & Stationery does, where it fits in your timeline, and what it will never be able to tell you.
DGPS is the Directorate of Government Printing & Stationery, Government of Gujarat. It is the body that actually prints and publishes the Gujarat Government Gazette, and it runs the official e-Gazette portal at egazette.gujarat.gov.in.
If your name change is "with the press", DGPS is the press. It is the last stop in the chain β and the one nobody outside government can hurry.
Every state needs somewhere to print its official record: the notifications, appointments, rules, tenders and public announcements that only count once they are formally published. In Gujarat that job belongs to the Directorate of Government Printing & Stationery, headquartered in Gandhinagar, with government presses under it.
Most citizens never hear the name. They meet DGPS only through its output β the PDF of the Gazette with the state masthead at the top β or through the portal where that PDF is published. If you have searched for "DGPS Gujarat" after being told your file is at the press, this is what you were being told.

That second column is the part that frustrates people, so it is worth stating plainly: DGPS prints and publishes; it does not draft or fix your application. What its portal does offer β since we last checked, in August 2026 β is a public status tracker: the Name/Surname Change Search on egazette.gujarat.gov.in shows whether an application is at Inward, Verification, Approve/Return or Published when you enter the application number or the mobile number used on the form. Beyond that there is no counter to call where somebody reads out your file; the published issue is the final word. How to use the tracker β
Understanding the chain explains why timelines behave the way they do:
Documents checked, spellings fixed against your existing records, affidavit prepared where applicable. Errors caught here cost days. Errors missed here cost weeks.
It enters the government queue with the supporting documents. This is the last point at which a correction is cheap.
DGPS prints to a schedule, not on demand. Your entry joins a queue of everything else the state is publishing that cycle. Nothing you or we do speeds up a printing calendar.
Your entry appears in an issue with a date, a part and a section. That published page is your proof.
The issue goes up on the e-Gazette site, where anyone can search and download it free β including you, and including the office that asks you for it.
Stage 3 is where almost all of the waiting lives, and it is the one stage entirely outside anyone's control. Any service that promises to "fast-track the press" is describing something it cannot do.
Two different questions, two different answers:
Do not spend a week refreshing a government portal for an entry that has not been printed yet. Check whether the expected window has actually passed first β our status page sets out realistic timings by stage.

The official portal is nineteen pages, and its top menu names them all without explaining any of them. We opened every one on 27 August 2026 and read the fields. This is the whole thing, in order of how useful it is to somebody with an application in progress — each row links straight to the government screen, and to our own page where we have written one.

There is no single “my application” screen. Status is spread across three separate screens — name search, birthdate search and payment status — and which one answers your question depends on what you are actually asking. That is why people conclude their application has vanished when it has not.
Everything here is free. No login is needed to search or download. Anyone charging you for access to a published gazette is charging for something they do not own.
The portal also carries a Screen Reader Access page for accessibility — its URL is misspelled on the government site itself, which is a small illustration of why we check these things by opening them rather than by assuming.
Send us a photo of the exact line on the form or letter. We'll tell you plainly whether it needs an officer's signature or a Gazette notification β and if it's the first one, we'll say so and you won't need us.

Changing your name? We publish it in the Gujarat Gazette, start to finish — ₹3,000 all-inclusive (Express ₹5,500), published within 60 working days or a 100% refund.
Normal plan: your published Gujarat Gazette within 60 working days. Express: within 30 working days β counted from the working day after full payment is received and your application number is generated, and we confirm your exact end date in writing. Working days are days the Gazette Department, Rajkot is open; Sundays, 2nd and 4th Saturdays and Government of Gujarat public holidays are not counted. If we miss your window you get a 100% refund of your invoice within 24 hours β no deduction for the Government fee, e-stamp, notary or drafting β and we still deliver your Gazette at no further service charge. In practice most of our filed gazettes publish within about 15 days of filing. The full terms are sent with your quote, before you pay.
