The Government charges ₹300, ₹1,000 or ₹2,500 for a gazette name or surname change — and its own website names the three fees without ever telling you which one applies to you. This page answers that, from the Government Resolution itself.
All three forms do the same legal job — they publish your name or surname change in the Gujarat Government Gazette. What differs is which gazette it goes into and how fast. Nothing else.
| Form | Fee | Which gazette | Speed | Choose it when… |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Annexure-1 “Ordinary” |
₹300 non-refundable |
Ordinary Gazette (સાધારણ), Part-II | Normal queue | This is the one you almost certainly need. A standard name or surname change with no deadline pressing on it. |
| Annexure-3 “Ordinary — for standalone publication” |
₹1,000 non-refundable |
Ordinary Gazette (સાધારણ), Part-II | Normal queue, in order of application | You want your notice published as its own standalone entry rather than in the regular batch. |
| Annexure-2 “Extra Ordinary — for urgent publication” |
₹2,500 non-refundable |
Extra Ordinary Gazette (અસાધારણ), Part-II | Within 3 days of the application clearing scrutiny, public holidays excluded | A passport appointment, a visa file, a bank or exam deadline — something with a real date on it. |
The three-day clock on Annexure-2 starts after your application has been fully scrutinised and found complete — not on the day you pay. A spelling that disagrees with your affidavit, or a missing enclosure, and you are back at the start having already paid ₹2,500 that you do not get back. Paying for speed does not buy forgiveness for a mistake. Get the paperwork right first; that is the actual fast route.
Buried in the fee Government Resolution is a service commitment you will not find stated on any agent’s website. For the ₹2,500 Annexure-2 route, the Resolution says that once an application for a standalone urgent name or surname change has been completely scrutinised and found to be in order, the notice will be published in the Extra Ordinary Gazette, Part-II, within three days, excluding public holidays.
For the ₹1,000 Annexure-3 route, the Resolution says standalone notices are published in the regularly issued Ordinary Gazette, in the order the applications were received once every detail is complete.
Both services were newly created by that Resolution. Before October 2024 there was only the ordinary route.
We are not asking you to take our word for any of the above. Every figure on this page comes from one document, and you can open it yourself:
| Document | Government Resolution on gazette publication fees for name / surname change |
| Resolution number | IMD/WRT/e-file/9/2023/2848/D.2 |
| Issued by | Industries and Mines Department, Sachivalaya, Gandhinagar — Government of Gujarat |
| Dated | 5 October 2024, and effective from the date of its publication |
| Read it | egazette.gujarat.gov.in/Files/gazetteefeeGR10102024.pdf — also linked from the portal’s Government Resolution page |
That same Resolution is what raised the Ordinary Gazette registration fee from ₹200 to ₹300. Any page still quoting ₹200 has not been updated since before October 2024 — which tells you something useful about how carefully the rest of that page was written.

Our own guide to what the application and affidavit must contain are free to download and are written to be filled alongside whichever of these you use.
While checking this we found a genuine discrepancy, and we would rather show it to you than quietly pick one:
A dated, signed Government Resolution normally carries more weight than an undated FAQ page, so the Tuesday reference is the more recent authority. But we have not seen this reconciled anywhere, and the practical answer is the same either way: do not plan around a publication day. The only timing the Government has actually committed to in writing is the three-day window on Annexure-2, and that clock starts after scrutiny. If the exact day matters to your case, the Rajkot office will tell you — 0281-2540016 / 0281-2540017, or gazette-helpline-rjt@gujarat.gov.in.
₹300 buys publication. It does not buy any of the things that decide whether your application survives scrutiny:
| Not covered by the Government fee | Why it matters |
|---|---|
| The affidavit | Must be on non-judicial stamp paper, sworn before a First Class or Executive Magistrate or a notary with signature and seal, and must be recent and specifically for gazette publication. Free format here. |
| Stamp paper and notarisation | Paid locally, to the notary. |
| The newspaper advertisement | Where your case calls for one, paid to the newspaper. |
| Getting it right the first time | The fee is non-refundable. A rejected application means paying it again. |
Our own charge is ₹3,000 all-inclusive (Express ₹5,500), and that covers the preparation, the checking and the filing — with a written guarantee behind the timeline. See exactly what is included, or read the full cost breakdown, itemised.
Page two of Annexure-1 carries ten numbered instructions from the Government. They are printed in Gujarati and are not published in English anywhere — so most applicants never read the rules their application will be judged against. This is our own plain-English rendering of them, given so you know what is expected. For anything that affects your case, read the Gujarati original on the form itself.
Rendered from the Gujarati text printed on Annexure-1. This is general information, not legal advice, and the Gujarati original governs.
All three forms are addressed to the same office, printed at the top of each one:
| Addressed to | The Manager, Government Press & Stationery, Reed Club Road, near the New Collector Office, Rajkot – 360 001 |
| Department | Directorate of Government Printing & Stationery, Gandhinagar — Government of Gujarat |
| Published in | Part-II of the Gujarat Government Gazette |
| Helpline | 0281-2540016 / 0281-2540017 · gazette-helpline-rjt@gujarat.gov.in |
| SMS updates | Each form asks for the applicant’s own mobile number, and the Government sends SMS updates to it. Put a number you actually use — not an agent’s. |
The Government’s own FAQ states that printing of the gazette has been discontinued and no physical copy is available. Whatever you are published in exists as a PDF you download from the portal. Anyone offering to fetch you a “government-printed original” is describing something that no longer exists. When we courier printed copies, those are our certified prints of that official PDF, and we say so plainly.
To find and download your own entry once it is out, see how to find your published entry, or check your status on the official screens.
Rs. 300 for the standard Ordinary Gazette notice on Annexure-1. Two other routes exist: Rs. 1,000 on Annexure-3 for a standalone entry in the Ordinary Gazette, and Rs. 2,500 on Annexure-2 for urgent publication in the Extra Ordinary Gazette. All three are non-refundable and were set by the Government Resolution of 5 October 2024.
They do the same legal job and differ only in which gazette the notice goes into and how fast. Annexure-1 (Rs. 300) is the standard Ordinary Gazette notice. Annexure-3 (Rs. 1,000) is an Ordinary Gazette notice published as a standalone entry. Annexure-2 (Rs. 2,500) goes into the Extra Ordinary Gazette and is published within three days of the application clearing scrutiny, public holidays excluded.
Annexure-1, at Rs. 300. The Rs. 1,000 and Rs. 2,500 routes exist for standalone and urgent publication, and are worth paying for only when a real deadline or a specific requirement calls for them.
The Government Resolution commits to publication in the Extra Ordinary Gazette, Part-II, within three days, excluding public holidays. That clock starts after the application has been fully scrutinised and found complete, not on the day you pay.
No. All three registration fees are expressly non-refundable. If an application is rejected the fee is paid again on resubmission, which is why the paperwork being right the first time matters more than paying for speed.
Because they have not been updated. The Government Resolution of 5 October 2024 raised the Ordinary Gazette registration fee from Rs. 200 to Rs. 300.
No. The portal's own FAQ states that printing of the gazette has been discontinued and no physical copy is available. The published gazette exists as a PDF you download. Printed copies supplied by any private service, including ours, are that service's own prints of the official PDF.
