After marriage, a spelling fix or a formal change β here's how to change the name on your driving licence, and when a Gazette is (and isn't) needed.
A driving licence name change usually comes up after marriage, after a formal name change, or when a spelling on the licence doesn't match your Aadhaar and other records. The route depends on why the name is changing β and we'll always tell you honestly when a Gazette isn't needed.
If your name changes, your vehicle registration certificate (RC) and insurance should match too β otherwise a mismatch resurfaces at transfer, claim or renewal. We help plan the sequence so everything lines up. For the licence-specific "how to" reference, see our driving licence name page.
Your existing driving licence, Aadhaar and one more identity proof, proof of the correct name (marriage certificate for a married-name change), and the Gazette and affidavit where a formal change is involved. We give you the exact list after a quick review.
*All-inclusive of the standard documentation. Newspaper advertisement charges are separate and always disclosed before work begins. The only difference between the plans is processing time.
If your case is a minor correction the RTO can do directly, we'll tell you β you won't pay a Gazette fee you don't need. Where a formal change is involved, we make the documentation clean and consistent. See the complete guide.
