Changing the name on your Voter ID (EPIC)

A Voter ID name change usually follows a marriage, a formal name change, or a spelling that doesn't match your Aadhaar. As with a driving licence, the route depends on the reason — and a Gazette isn't always required.

When a Gazette is (and isn't) needed

• Spelling correction — often handled directly through the Election Commission's correction process with supporting proof.
• After marriage — commonly supported by a marriage certificate; a Gazette helps where your records don't align.
• A genuine, formal name change — a Gazette establishes one consistent name across your Voter ID and other documents.

Documents usually needed

Your existing Voter ID/EPIC details, Aadhaar and one more identity proof, proof of the correct name (marriage certificate for a married-name change), and the Gazette and affidavit where a formal change is involved.
