RTO & Parivahan: Driving Licence Name Changes

The RTO issues driving licences through the Parivahan system. Here's how name corrections and changes work.

What the RTO does

Regional Transport Offices (RTOs), through the national Parivahan / Sarathi system, issue and manage driving licences. A licence name that differs from your Aadhaar or PAN can cause trouble at verification, renewal, or when the licence is used as ID.

Correction vs name change

A minor correction may be handled directly by the RTO with an existing document. A genuine name change β€” after marriage, or a full change β€” usually needs recognised proof such as a Gujarat Gazette, which you then use for the licence update.

Align your other records first

Because the licence is checked against Aadhaar and PAN, make sure those show the correct name so the update isn't held for a mismatch.

Who decides

The RTO decides the licence update under its own rules. We prepare the supporting documentation and guide the sequence.

How we help

We help establish one correct name and prepare the proof for the RTO update. See our spelling correction and marriage name change services, and the driving-licence problem page.

Official source

Always verify current requirements on the official portal: Parivahan / RTO (parivahan.gov.in) β†—. Harsiddhi Services is independent and not affiliated with this authority.
FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need a Gazette to fix my driving licence name?
Not for a minor correction, which the RTO may handle directly. A genuine name change usually needs recognised proof such as a Gazette.
Does a Gazette update my licence automatically?
No. You apply to the RTO to update the licence, using the Gazette and your documents as proof. The RTO decides.
Should Aadhaar and PAN be fixed first?
Ideally yes, so the licence update isn't held for a mismatch against them.

Normal plan: your Gujarat Gazette within 60 days. Express (extraordinary Gazette): within 30 days β€” counted from the date full payment is received and your application number is generated. Nobody can fix the Government Press’s exact publication date, so instead of a promise we cannot keep, we give you a real remedy: if we miss the window you get a full refund of everything you paid us β€” and we still complete your Gazette at no further service charge. In practice most of our filed gazettes publish within about 15 days of filing; the 60/30-day windows are your written safety net. The guarantee is issued in writing with your quote.
