These terms describe the stages and the actions different authorities take. Here's what they mean when you meet them.

Draft

The prepared wording of your affidavit and Gazette that you review before filing. Nothing is filed until you approve it — your key safeguard against a published error.See: Draft review checklist

Publication

Objection / Hold

When an authority (a passport office, a consulate, a verifier) pauses a request because a name doesn't match or a document is incomplete. Reconciling names beforehand avoids it.See: Passport on hold

Endorsement

An insurer's process for recording a change, such as a corrected name, on a policy.See: Insurance policy guide

Mutation

Updating a property or land record to reflect a change of holder or details. A name difference on old property records must often be reconciled before mutation.See: Property & inheritance

Re-issue

Applying for a fresh document, such as a passport, to reflect a corrected or changed name once a Gazette establishes it.See: Passport name change

Verification

A check — for a job, a passport, or KYC — that your name and details agree across documents. A mismatch is flagged until reconciled.See: Job verification held
