These are the terms that describe the Gazette and the publication step. If any of them appear in your paperwork, here's what they mean.
- Gujarat Gazette
- The official journal of the Government of Gujarat, published periodically. Among other things, it publishes name-change notifications submitted by individuals. Once your change appears, it becomes part of an official, published record β recognised proof that your old and new names belong to the same person.See: What is the Gujarat Gazette?
- Gazette notification
- The brief published entry recording your name change β your old name, new name, and enough detail to establish both refer to you. Authorities read it to link the name they hold to the name you now want, which is why the old name must match your target record.See: What's in a notification
- Government Press / Department of Publication
- The government machinery that publishes the Gazette. It controls the publication stage on its own schedule β which is exactly why no one can guarantee a fixed publication date.
- Publication
- The stage at which your notification actually appears in the Gazette. Everything before it (drafting, notary, newspaper, filing) can be prioritised; publication itself rests with the Government Press.See: Process & timeline
- e-Gazette / Digital copy
- The electronic form of a published Gazette notification. A clear digital copy is handy for online document updates and for re-use years later, since a Gazette does not expire.See: Digital & e-Gazette copies
- Central Gazette vs State Gazette
- The Gazette of India is the central government's official journal; the Gujarat Gazette is the state's. Name-change notifications for Gujarat residents are commonly published in the Gujarat Gazette.
- Gazette validity
- A Gazette notification is a permanent, published record β it does not 'expire'. People rely on the same notification years later to support new document updates.See: How long a Gazette is valid
