The Election Commission maintains the electoral roll and issues Voter IDs. Here's how name corrections work.
The Election Commission of India (ECI) maintains the electoral roll and issues the Voter ID (EPIC). When your Voter ID name is wrong or no longer matches your other records β an old spelling, or a maiden name after marriage β it can cause issues when the card is used as ID or during verification.
A minor correction to the electoral roll can often be requested directly through the Election Commission's own process (commonly via its correction form/portal). For a genuine name change, recognised proof such as a Gujarat Gazette supports the request.
Electoral-roll updates are processed and decided by the Election Commission under its own rules. We prepare the supporting documentation.
We help establish one correct name and prepare the proof to support the correction. See our spelling correction and surname change services, and the Voter ID problem page.
Tell us your situation and we'll guide you on the right documentation β including whether a Gazette is even needed.
