Aadhaar Name-Update Limit Checker

UIDAI normally allows your Aadhaar name to be updated only a limited number of times. Answer two quick questions to see where you stand β€” and whether you need a Gujarat Gazette or the UIDAI exception route. Honest guidance, no guarantees.

General guidance based on how UIDAI usually handles name updates β€” not a legal opinion or a guarantee. Final decisions rest with UIDAI and the relevant Regional Office. Nothing you enter is stored.

About This Tool

How the Aadhaar Name-Update Limit Checker Helps

UIDAI limits how many times the name on an Aadhaar can be changed β€” commonly understood as twice in a lifetime. This checker helps you work out where you stand before you spend money on a Gazette you may not be able to use yet, or discover a blocked update at the worst moment.

How it works

You answer a few plain questions about whether you have changed your Aadhaar name before and what change you now need. Based on your answers it indicates the likely route: a normal update if you still have an attempt available, or UIDAI's exception-handling process if your limit is exhausted. It also reminds you of the rule that trips most people up β€” the old name in your Gazette must match your current Aadhaar exactly.

When to use it

Use it before drafting a Gazette intended for an Aadhaar update, or if a previous Aadhaar name change has already been done and you are unsure whether another is possible. It is especially useful when a bank, PAN link or passport step is waiting on the Aadhaar name.

Good to know

This tool is guidance, not a UIDAI decision. A Gazette does not reset or unlock the limit, and approval always rests with UIDAI. For the full detail see our Aadhaar name-update limit guide and the step-by-step update Aadhaar after your Gazette walkthrough.
