APAAR / ABC ID Name Mismatch β€” and How to Fix It

Your APAAR (ABC ID) name doesn't match your Aadhaar or school records? Here's exactly why it happens and how to fix it in the right order.

What's happening

Your APAAR ID (also called the ABC ID β€” the Academic Bank of Credits identifier) is created from your Aadhaar details. So the name on your APAAR is essentially pulled from your Aadhaar record. A mismatch shows up when the name on your Aadhaar doesn't match the name on your school or college records β€” or when your name has genuinely changed and only some records were updated.

Why it happens

Is a Gujarat Gazette required?

It depends on the cause. If it's a small spelling difference, the fix is usually to correct the underlying record (often Aadhaar or the school record) so the two agree β€” no Gazette needed. If your name has genuinely changed and you need one consistent name recognised across academic and identity documents, a Gazette is the clean way to establish it. Tell us which situation you're in and we'll advise honestly.

How to fix it

  1. Decide the correct name β€” the one you want to appear everywhere.
  2. Find the mismatch source β€” compare your Aadhaar, school/board record and APAAR side by side.
  3. Align the base record β€” correct Aadhaar and/or the school record so they match. For a genuine name change, establish the new name via a Gazette with a supporting affidavit.
  4. Regenerate or update the APAAR once the source records agree.

Important

APAAR is generated and managed through the academic/UIDAI systems. We handle the name documentation so your records are clean and consistent; the ID update itself is processed by the concerned system under its own rules.

FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions

What is an APAAR / ABC ID and why does the name mismatch matter?
APAAR (the Academic Bank of Credits ID) is a student identifier linked to your academic records and generated from Aadhaar. If the name doesn't match your school, board or Aadhaar records, it can create problems with admissions, scholarships, credit transfers and later verification β€” so it's worth fixing early.
Do I need a Gujarat Gazette to fix an APAAR name mismatch?
Only if your name has genuinely changed. For a simple spelling difference, correcting the underlying Aadhaar or school record is usually enough. Where there's a real name change, a Gazette establishes one consistent name across your academic and identity documents. We assess your case before recommending anything.
The name on my APAAR is wrong because my Aadhaar is wrong. What do I do?
Fix the source first. Correct the name on Aadhaar (mind the update limit), make sure your school record agrees, and then the APAAR can be aligned. We guide you through the right order so you don't create a new mismatch.
Can you help students from anywhere in Gujarat?
Yes β€” the whole process can be handled remotely across all 33 districts, with documents over WhatsApp and drafts approved by phone.
