At 18 you acquire a set of adult documents almost at once — a first PAN, often a first passport, a voter ID, and an Aadhaar that shifts from a child's record to the identity you will use for decades. That clustering is an opportunity. Get the name identical across all of them now, while you have few assets and no history to untangle, and you save yourself a great deal of trouble later.
A name mismatch is cheap to fix when nothing depends on it yet. At 18 you typically have no property, no insurance claims, no provident fund, no professional qualifications tied to a particular spelling. Reconciling two documents is a quick task. Wait ten years and the same mismatch is entangled with a bank loan, a job's HR record and an EPFO balance — the fix is the same, but the untangling is not.
Lay out four records and read the name on each, letter by letter:
Look specifically for the usual culprits: a father's name or middle name present on some and missing on others, an initial expanded on one and abbreviated on another, or two different English spellings of the same Gujarati name.
If a difference is a plain clerical error, the issuing office can usually correct it directly — no Gazette required. If your documents carry genuinely different names because they were created from different childhood records, a one-and-same-person or name-change Gazette gives every future employer, bank and university a single reference to trust. Doing this before your first job means every adult record you ever open starts consistent.
