A caste or community certificate is issued by a designated revenue or competent authority under a defined procedure, and is relied on for education, employment and welfare purposes. Its name should match your other identity documents so it's accepted without question.
A name correction on a caste certificate is handled by the issuing authority under its own rules β it is not something a Gazette changes directly. Where the underlying issue is a genuine name change (for example a married name), a Gujarat Gazette can serve as recognised supporting proof that the two names are the same person, which the authority may consider.
A caste certificate in Gujarat is issued through the Mamlatdar or the Social Welfare department, via the Digital Gujarat portal or a Jan Seva Kendra. After a name change you apply for a fresh certificate in the new name; the Gujarat Gazette proves the change, while your family and lineage documents prove the caste itself.
What makes the caste certificate different from other documents is the lineage cross-check. The office validates against your father's and family records. If it is your own name that changed, the gazette handles it cleanly. But if a family elder's name appears differently across documents, resolve that inconsistency first β because the reviewing officer checks the family line, and a mismatch there stalls the application even when your own paperwork is perfect.
For example, an applicant whose father's name is spelled two different ways across the old school record and the ration card should reconcile that before filing, or attach a clear explanation with proof β otherwise the caste certificate can sit in query while the office tries to confirm the family link.
