Banks verify your name against Aadhaar and PAN. Here's how a name update works, and why the order you fix things in matters.
Banks operate under KYC (Know Your Customer) requirements and verify your account name against your identity documents, chiefly Aadhaar and PAN. Your account name is expected to agree with these, and with the records used for any linked services such as a debit card, loan or investment account.
Mismatches usually appear after a marriage (an account opened in a maiden name), or because of a long-standing spelling or initial difference between the account and Aadhaar/PAN. Different accounts opened over the years with different documents can also disagree.
For a minor difference, the bank's own update process with an existing document may suffice. Where a genuine name change is behind the mismatch, a Gujarat Gazette establishes one consistent name that the bank, Aadhaar and PAN can all align to. The bank then updates its record through its own KYC process.
We help establish one authoritative name and guide the order β Aadhaar and PAN first, then the bank. See our bank KYC problem page and bank records guide. Each bank applies its own KYC rules and decides the update.
Tell us what your account, Aadhaar and PAN show, and we'll advise the order to align them so KYC clears.
