A marriage certificate proves a marriage — but a surname change usually needs more. Here's how they relate.
Issued by the Registrar of Marriages, the certificate proves a marriage took place. Some authorities accept it as supporting proof when updating a record to a married surname, but proving a marriage and formally changing a name are two different things.
For a broadly recognised surname change across your documents, a Gujarat Gazette (with a supporting affidavit) is commonly used. The marriage certificate supports it.
We prepare the Gazette and, where needed, the joint affidavit, drafted so your maiden name matches your existing records for a clean update. See our name change after marriage service, the Registrar of Marriages guide, and the marriage vs divorce guide.
Tell us your situation and we'll guide you on the right documentation — including whether a Gazette is even needed.
