A domicile (or residence) certificate, issued by a revenue or competent authority, proves that you are a resident of the state β commonly needed for admissions, government jobs and certain benefits. Its name should match your identity and academic records.
A name difference is corrected by the issuing authority under its own procedure, with supporting identity documents. Where the underlying cause is a genuine name change, a Gujarat Gazette can serve as recognised supporting proof to align the name.
A domicile (residence) certificate in Gujarat is issued by the Mamlatdar or Collector's office, applied for through the Digital Gujarat portal or a Jan Seva Kendra. Unlike an ID card, domicile is a one-time status document, so after a name change you generally apply for a fresh domicile certificate in the new name rather than editing the old one. The gazette establishes the name; your long-term residence evidence (school records, ration card, property or rent history) supports the residence claim itself.
